President’s Message – July 2010

Well we kicked into high gear this month. In addition to the regular monthly ice cream run and brunch, which drew around a dozen members each, we co-hosted a poker run to Bruce with the Corvette club and an ice cream run to Devon with the T-Birds (over twenty members at both of these events). I was amazed at the quality of the meal at the Bruce Hotel. Apparently, they bring people in by the bus load on weekends. As it was, we had to clear out by 7 p.m. because buses with 200 people were arriving for the second sitting. As far as I am concerned, this should be a new annual event. I also spotted our members at the Crystal Kids and Children’s Wish shows and know we were also at the 99 Street Church Show. As part of the Race Week Edmonton initiative, we also had members participating in the Edmonton Airfest Show N Shine.

The Club continued to make its presence known out at Castrol Speedway for the Friday Night Street Legals as well. While Bob and “Mean Green” were busy blowing the doors off the new Hemis, a number of our members were signing people up in the staging area and in the stands. The number of members starting to sport club colours at the track and other events is also impressive. We are gradually becoming a sea of blue and black at major car events. We have also been working hard to promote our upcoming club events at all of these locations. The members have been working and playing hard!

While there were lots of things going on locally, there were also events happening out of town. One that I caught was the Show N Shine out in Hinton. I made a day trip out to visit with one of our new members and enjoy the hospitality of the Hinton car enthusiasts. Along the way, I managed to sign up another new member, Alain, and his 2010 Shelby GT 500. Alain travelled to the Shelby plant to meet the great man himself and was even given the honour of driving an original GT 500 on the Shelby test track. Now that’s a story! We are hoping to build more linkages with Hinton in the coming year and maybe co-host some sort of event out that way. By the way, we hit the 200 member mark this month J

Just a reminder that our fourth ice cream run will be happening on Monday, July 12thth , departing from Healy Ford at 7.30; destination TBA. On the 15th we are co-hosting a show n shine with the Corvette Club at the Aviation Museum (6-10 P.m.). Instead of the Saturday Brunch at Ricky’s, the Shanleys are hosting the Klondike Pancake Breakfast on July 17th. Our monthly meeting will be taking place in the Healy Ford boardroom on Monday July 19th. Also remember, we will be doing a slalom event with the Corvettes on July 24th. There are also a large number of car events happening throughout July, so check out the Race Week Edmonton website at http://raceweekedmonton.com/ for details.

Next month is the Freedom Ford Show so Rick, who is quarterbacking the event, will be working hard to make that show as successful as it was last year. Stay tuned and remember to check us out at www.amoaweb.com .

12th Annual AMOA/Healy All Ford Classic Show – Volunteer Meeting – Tuesday, July 6th, 7:00 PM @ Healy Ford (upstairs)

All AMOA members are encouraged to volunteer for the 12th Annual AMOA/Healy All Ford Classic Show being held on Saturday, July 10th.

The show proceeds will again benefit the Cross Cancer Institute, no experience necessary to volunteer and it’s a great way for newer members to get involved with the Club. Special commemorative T-shirts given to all volunteers, this will be the last show at the current Healy Ford location so come out, volunteer and lets make the 12th AMOA/Healy Ford Show the best one so far! If you have questions please contact Daryl Royer or come to the volunteer meeting!

2010 International Mustang Meet Update

Hello everyone from the Ford Central Car Club, here is the latest update we are sending out to give all 2010 International Mustang Meet registrants and potential registrants a heads up as to what we have been doing while preparing to host the 2010 International Mustang Meet in Red Deer Alberta this coming September 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2010. We will also be posting updates on our club web page as well, please feel free to access it at www.fordcentral.ca.

First of all for anyone who does not already know the Host Hotel is the Capri Convention Centre located on the south hill of Red Deer, their web page link is www.capricentre.com and their toll free phone # is 1-800-662-7197. At this time they have approx 180 rooms already reserved for the International Mustang Meet which is pretty much our sold out block for the hotel, I have talked with the management and they do have a limited number of rooms (maybe 20 or 30) which is outside of our 180 room block that you can still phone in and reserve, these rooms are rooms that the hotel did hold back for there regular customers but they will still rent them out to the public but just remember these rooms are outside of our International Room Block , if you do not wish to stay at the host hotel or you cannot obtain a room at the Capri there is 2 alternative hotels listed on our registration form which is also attached to this email , but please book your hotel as soon as possible and advise all other potential attendees to do the same.

The actual show will also be held in the Host Hotels parking lot. As far as registration numbers go as of today we have approximately 176 cars already preregistered, there is a registration form attached to this email, please feel free to print it and forward it to as many people as you can, also as everyone knows we cannot express enough how important it is for everyone to submit their preregistration forms as soon as possible so that as a host club we can get as much lead time as we can as to planning and laying out our parking lot and numbers of cars per class , PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO PREREGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !

The draw for the Free Hotel Room was won by Brian Scarrow of Calgary, thank you Brian for preregistering and congratulations on winning the room. We are working with the hotel and trying to obtain another free room and if we succeed we will make another draw out of all of the preregistered cars as soon as we know for sure.

So far all the plans with the hotel seem to be proceeding in good order and as of this time they have been more than accommodating and willing to work with us to meet our every need, we are also in the final stages of setting our events schedule, as soon as we have it finalized we will be posting it on our web page. We also have our committees working on and putting the final touches on the trophies, and dash plaques, sponsorship and door prizes is also proceeding as planned and is on going. Hopefully by the time we send out our June update we will have the finalized events agenda for everyone to review. Please feel free to email or phone us with any questions, concerns or suggestions at anytime. We are all looking so forward to seeing everyone at this meet and encourage everyone preregister, prebook your hotel rooms and contact us with any questions, concerns or suggestions. November Prez Msg

Let me start by saying that I have been sick for a few days, so I apologize in advance if this month’s message seems a little dull; my mind is feeling less than sharp at the moment! As I started this month’s message I realized that there isn’t a lot of news to pass along this month!

First off, I would like to thank Barb Royer for jumping in at the last minute at last month’s meeting to perform as Super Secretary once again… I guess there are things you never forget how to do, hey Barb? Thanks again for pitching in!

In relation to the minutes, you will see in this month’s edition that there were a number of nominations and volunteers who stepped forward at that October meeting to run the club in 2010, which is fantastic! If you are getting this via email, you still have a bit of time to get involved in running the club, but now is the time! The 2010 Executive Committee will be chosen at the November meeting, so if you’re interested please come to the November meeting…and even if you aren’t planning on taking a position come out and support those that are!

Also, the Red Deer Club now has the 31st IMM registration form on their website, along with a lot of other news. Their planning is well underway and although it seems the IMM is so far away, it will be here before we know it, so if you are going, please make all your reservations as soon as possible. You will not only be helping the host club, but you will also ensure you aren’t disappointed!

Finally, in relation to the 2009 AMOA Christmas Party, if you have already contacted Barb to reserve your spot, don’t forget the big day is December 5th! The Laugh Spot is a great place and our group is bound to have a great time there! If you have any questions about this event, please contact Barb Royer!

AMOA Elections: Coming Soon To A Meeting Near You

It’s that time of year again, executive elections will be held at the November 16 meeting! There are lots of different positions available and none of them take a great deal of time or effort to do, so if you would like to help run our club please put your name forward. If you are unsure of what the various positions entail, then please contact one of the present executive members and they will gladly explain it to you.

Remember: it’s your club and if you want it to keep running, we need energetic people in those executive positions!

Freedom Ford Show & Shine: August 15, 2009

The AMOA and Freedom Ford will be hosting their annual show and shine on Saturday, August 15, 2009! If you have a Mustang or Ford vehicle and want to attend the show, drop by Freedom Ford on 75th and 75th on Saturday morning (before 11am) to register and show your car! There will be trophies for a variety of classes at this event!

For any AMOA members who are willing to volunteer for this event, there will be a short volunteer meeting at Freedom on Thursday, August 13, 2009 starting at 7pm…if you are thinking of volunteering please try to attend the meeting!
